States Who Haven't Implemented NRII

(NRCME Electronic Submission of Exam Results to States)

By June 23, 2025, all States should have adopted this new system where the FMCSA electronically transmits exam results (medically qualified, unqualified, exemptions, and SPE) from the National Registry to the SDLAs.

14 States have yet to comply

  • Alaska
  • California
  • Florida
  • Illinois
  • Iowa
  • Kentucky
  • Louisiana
  • New Hampshire
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • North Carolina
  • Oklahoma
  • Vermont
  • Wyoming

The FMCSA will update the list of States as they implement NRII. Follow this link to check for updates. https://nationalregistry.fmcsa.dot.gov/nriilearning-center

What does this mean for drivers in these states?

Drivers licensed in states that have not implemented NRII must continue to submit a paper copy of their Medical Examiner’s Certificate, MCSA-5876, to their State.

Regardless of where the examination is performed, the driver must ensure that the certified medical examiner issues them an original/paper Medical Examiner’s Certificate, MCSA-5876.
