FMCSA Begins Auditing & Performance Monitoring

Beginning July 1, 2024, FMCSA will begin conducting medical examiner (ME) performance monitoring audits. If you are selected to be audited, FMCSA will notify you by email and you are required to provide all examination records requested within 48 hours or you will receive a Notice of Proposed Removal.

FMCSA created a PDF document that contains questions and answers as well as screenshots to assist MEs on how to complete the required actions.

Key Points

Ensure that you are receiving emails from FMCSA

  • Verify that your correct email address is listed on your National Registry profile

  • Check to see if you received the most recent email from FMCSA concerning this topic.

    • It was sent on 6/28/24 from the email address donotreply@nationalregistry-fmcsa.appiancloud.com, and was titled, "Medical Examiner Performance Monitoring and Auditing through the National Registry System".

  • If the email went to Spam, take the necessary steps to prevent this type of email from going to Spam in the future

What to do if you are selected:

Login to your National Registry account and locate the performance monitoring task in the “My Tasks” section of your account. It will provide instructions for how to upload the examination records or how to assign your MEAA the task to upload the records on your behalf.

Notice of Proposed Removal (NOPR):

If you fail to provide the required records within 48 hours, you will be emailed a NOPR and a similar notification will appear in your National Registry account.

  • You must reply within 30 days indicating one of the following:

    • Agree that you will take the corrective action(s) outlined in the NOPR

    • Disagree with the issuance of the NOPR. If so, you must provide documentation of why you believe FMCSA has relied on an erroneous reason in proposing your removal from the National Registry

  • Failure to respond within 30 days will result in immediate removal from the National Registry

  • If you respond within the 30 days, you will have an additional 30 days to take the corrective action(s) outlined in the NOPR.

If removed from the National Registry for noncompliance, you must wait 30 days before you are able to request reinstatement.
