FMCSA Statement: Sharing of login.gov Credentials is Prohibited! |
|
|
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) recently faced the challenge of processing approximately 50,000 helpdesk tickets concerning Medical
Examiner (ME) reinstatement requests following removal from the National Registry due to non-compliance. During this process, it was discovered that many MEs had been sharing their login credentials with staff members, who then accessed the ME's National Registry account on their behalf.
This practice is strictly prohibited. Sharing login credentials with unauthorized individuals violates the Privacy Act and the FMCSA’s IT Rules of Behavior for National Registry System Users.
MEs who have engaged in this behavior are urged to immediately change their password to prevent unauthorized access to their accounts.
Going forward, the FMCSA will closely monitor instances of this prohibited activity and take appropriate disciplinary measures against offenders. This may include permanent removal from the National Registry, fines, and imprisonment for up to 10 years.

The Solution:
Have staff members create their own National Registry account as a Medical Examiner Administrative Assistants (MEAA).
|
Instruct them to take the following steps:
Visit www.nationalregistry.fmcsa.dot.gov and click on the "Register" link in the top menu.
Select the option to register as a Medical Examiner Administrative Assistant, which will guide them through a straightforward registration process and provide them with a 10-digit MEAA ID#.
Upon successful registration, the login process for MEAAs mirrors that of MEs. If they do not already have a login.gov account, they will be prompted to create one during their initial login.
The final step involves the ME designating the staff member as their MEAA. This is accomplished by:
Logging into your National Registry account and navigating to the "Designations" section in the left-hand menu of the account home page.
Select "Designate MEAA" and proceed to search for the staff member using their MEAA ID#, last name, first name, or business name.
Once the staff member has been identified, they will be emailed instructions to log in to their National Registry account and accept your designation request.
There is no training requirement to become an MEAA
