New FMCSA Waiver

FMCSA Grants Temporary Waiver for CDL Medical Certification Process

On July 14, 2025, FMCSA issued a temporary waiver to support the ongoing transition to the Medical Examiner’s Certification Integration (NRII) system, which replaces the traditional paper-based process with secure electronic transmission of medical certification data.

FMCSA acknowledges that some drivers may experience delays during this transition and aims to prevent disruptions for drivers and employers.

What does this mean for drivers?

The waiver allows interstate CDL and CLP holders, as well as motor carriers, to continue using paper copies of medical examiner’s certificates as proof of medical certification for up to 15 days after issuance.

This waiver is effective through October 12, 2025.

What does this mean for examiners?

Medical examiners are to continue issuing paper certificates alongside electronic submissions during this period.
